Chris Gayle came back to lead West Indies, but lost the toss and was faced with the task of containing a strong Indian batting line-up. India went in unchanged, choosing to play Irfan Pathan despite concerns over his bowling of late.
Gayle replaced Xavier Marshall, as Lendl Simmons kept his place after his impressive showing with both bat and ball against Sri Lanka.
On the same pitch, the ball seamed a round a bit and fast bowlers got good pace and carry, but the spinners didn't get too much turn during the Sri Lanka-Pakistan game earlier in the day.
